Call several accountants and ask them some of your questions over the phone. Hire the one who seems the most knowledgeable.

Both of the previous answers are right on the money the only additional thought is write your questions down so when you do see a CPA you can get the answers you need and won't forget anything.

I would call a few CPA's in the area and ask for their hourly rate, and whether that is on-site at your business or if you have to bring everything to them. I would NOT advertise in the paper because you will get a lot of bookkeepers responding who think they are qualified and you can end up with a mess. Since you have tax questions, I would stick with a CPA for those, and if you just need a general bookkeeper, the CPA can probably recommend one to you. Most CPA's know which bookkeepers in the area are good at what they do and which ones they have to straighten out the mess on at the end of the year.
