Will You Work Hard So That You Can Pay Higher Taxes And Help Grow Government?

Is this what socialism asks of us?

No. I once read a short story from inside the Iron curtain. A writer went to a manufacturing plant there to interview the workers. The government thought he was there for some other reason, of course. He saw the employees pretend working but wasting time and drinking Vodka when they weren’t being watched. They made so many “widgets” each day with no variation. The writer noticed they had the machinery and supplies to make many more widgets each day if they only cared to. He asked a worker why they didn’t make more widgets to help the country? The worker said “Why should we, if we make ONE more ONE day we will be expected to make that many every day thereafter and we get paid no more if we do”.
    A lesson for us all!

Relax, people. The top tax rate in the U.S. was 90% in the post-war era until 1964. The economy grew like gangbusters. People worked hard to grow their incomes. No one is even remotely suggesting going back to a 90% top income tax rate, so we are now and will be in the future much less socialist than we were 50 years ago. Actually, Obama is recommending going back to the tax rate of the 1990’s, when the economy again grew like gangbusters and federal deficits were completely eliminated. Why would that be socialism?

not interested, but thanks for the offer. i’m not near the top tax bracket, but knowing i will continue to get higher percentages taken out of my earnings is not the incentive i need to try to get there.
as for growing the size of government, all i can use is a crude analogy. when we finally discover a cure for cancer, let’s use it on big government first.

Taxes haven’t gone up for me. We’ve always had tax brackets. If you work hard you will make more money. Income taxes are lower now than they were under Ronald Reagan.
“I could bring home more if I quit my job, let my house go into foreclosure , and lived off of government social programs.”
LOL. Yeah, try that, enjoy living in section 8 apartment instead of your own home.

  5. Eric M says:

No! I’ll work hard for God, I’ll work hard for you, I’ll work hard for me!
That’s one characteristic of socialism! Work harder to pay more taxes, while the streets and garbage gets worst! Hospitals and police, fire departments break down!

  6. Stereoty says:

If someone had told me that I would make a very nice living but Net what I am after taxes, I would not have wasted 20 years working 50-60 hours a week creating jobs. It’s awful how the young people do not understand taxes.

  7. eir says:

no, i have lost my drive to work harder and make more money. the more i work, the more the government takes. it just isn’t worth it.

  8. Why Don't People Like Me? 2 says:

I don’t have a choice. I work 50 to 60 hours a week just to get by. When my taxes are raised by 10 to 20% in the next 5 years I will be screwed…Thanks Obama.
